DUHOK – Senior U.S. officials revealed on Sunday that three American contractors are missing in Iraq.
The U.S. State Department said in a statement that it is working with the Iraqi government to find the missing contractors, who are believed to have been kidnapped two days ago in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
“The disappearance is being treated as a possible kidnapping,” a U.S. official said on Sunday.
State Department spokesman John Kirby said: “We are working with the full cooperation of the Iraqi authorities to locate and recover the individuals.”
“The safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority,” Kirby said.
“A company filed a report Sunday about three of its staff going missing two days ago. They are American contractors,” another official told CNN. “We are looking into this report.”
This comes just one week after the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) claimed several suicide attacks in Baghdad that have killed more than 40 people.
