In a meeting with the official spokesman of the Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG), Redour Khalil, and a number of activists interested in the Kurdish social networking, Khalil insisted that the Turkish government supports the radical groups to fight Syria’s Kurds.

“Turkey should not fear the Kurdish people in Syria and should stop its considerable support to radical groups for it is not in the interest of Turkey anyway,” Khalil said.

He stressed that the Popular Protection Units (YPG) is a legitimate Kurdish army that defends the Kurdish people, not a military wing for the Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Khalil clarified that the YPG are Muslims and they are fighting radical groups that have nothing to do with Islam, denying that they have any link with the Assad regime, and they get their weapons from some arms dealers.

In response to a question of an activist whether Syrian Kurds demand independence or not, Khalil said: “the Kurds do not want separation from Syria, they belive to be a part of Syria, as long as their legitimate rights are guaranteed.”

He emphasized that “Kurdistan is not a dream for the Kurds, because usually dreams do not become true, but Kurdistan is a geographical and historical fact.”

Khalil stressed that the YPG members are fighting alone without receiving any support from any other Kurdish groups, but when needed, it will be asked from other Kurdish forces from the south, east and north of Kurdistan.

“The jihadists get support even from Tora Bora; they do not see much difference between the behavior of the Syrian regime’s army and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) when it comes to the Kurds,” He added.

On the subject of not opening Semalka crossing with Iraqi Kurdistan border, Khalil said: “Barzani closed the border for political reasons. If he really cares about the Kurds in Syria, he has to re-open the border gate. We do not receive any help from the Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Regional Government, we helped them in Iraq, so they have to stand with us now.”

Regarding the willingness of the Kurdish forces of the YPG to stop fighting, Khalil said: “We are ready to stop fighting if the Syrian opposition agrees on a Kurdish self-administration in the Kurdish region in Syria.”
